A driver who failed to provide details on who was driving his vehicle recklessly at an Essex level crossing, has been fined and had had points placed on his licence.

Jordan White, of Bridle Way, Hertfordshire, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 9 October.

On 21 March, the 22-year-old’s Seat Ibiza was filmed ignoring the the red flashing lights on the level crossing at Roydon station in Essex, swerving between the lowering barriers. A marked BTP vehicle, equipped with CCTV systems, captured the moment White’s vehicle dashed through the barriers.

White failed to provide details on who was driving the car, and was later charged with an offence contrary to section 172 (3) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and schedule 2 to the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. Charges that White admitted at court.

This is the moment the car raced over the level crossing:

Inspector Steve Webster from British Transport Police, said: “The actions of the driver in this CCTV footage were utterly careless. They blatantly ignored the level crossing warning lights, swerving between the barriers and potentially putting themselves in harms way.

“The risks of misusing a level crossing cannot be overstated and we will continue to work closely with Network Rail to prosecute motorists.”
