A man who touched himself inappropriately on a South Wales train has been handed a six month prison sentence.

Paul Mallaburn, aged 21 of Dillwyn Street, Llanelli, appeared before Carmarthenshire Magistrates' court on 14 August where he was sentenced. He was also ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge and was handed a five year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

On 17 July last year, two girls in their teens joined a 4.48pm service from Swansea station and sat down next to each other. During the journey, Mallaburn stood close to the two girls, one of which had fallen asleep.

When the girl woke, she saw that the defendant was staring at her whilst touching himself in a sexual manner. He continued to touch himself for a period of time before leaving the train at Llanelli.

Following enquires from BTP, Mallaburn was arrested and charged with outraging public decency, an offence he admitted at court.

PC Jason Teear from BTP, said: “Mallaburn’s behaviour was disgraceful, he touched himself inappropriately whilst staring at these two young girls. His actions were intimidating and left both the girls feeling frightened.

“Unwanted sexual behaviour, such as Mallaburn’s, will never be tolerated and I’d like to commend the two victims for reporting his behaviour. Reports such as theirs ultimately help us in identifying perpetrators and bringing them before the courts.”
