A man who concealed a dangerous stun gun, blade and drugs while travelling on a train has been handed a five year prison sentence.

Bartosz Wozniak, aged 38 and of Gloucester Road, Avonmouth appeared at Bristol Crown Court on 17 July where he was handed the prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay a £170 victim surcharge.

On Saturday 30 September, Wozniak was spotted on board a train by a member of rail staff who believed he had a stun gun concealed in his possession.

BTP were quickly dispatched and met the train at Stapleton Road station where Wozniak was stop and searched. Officers found him in possession of an electronic stun device which was disguised as a torch. He also had in his possession a two inch lock blade and a small quantity of two Class B drugs.

At court, Wozniak admitted two counts of possession of a Class B drug, one count of possession of a bladed article and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.

DS Amy Perry from BTP, said: “There is no questioning how dangerous it was to possess these two weapons. If used on someone, I am sure they would have had devastating consequences.

“I’d like to praise the member of rail staff for their quick thinking in reporting this matter to police. We were able to quickly work with the rail industry to get officers to Stapleton Road station where Wozniak was detained.

“Wozniak faces five years behind bars for possessing these weapons, a sentence we very much welcome. The railway should never be seen as an environment where crime will be tolerated, this sentence should clearly demonstrate that.”

Sentence breakdown:

1. Possession of a prohibited weapon (disguised firearm): 5 years in prison, 10 days credit for time spent on bail with electronically monitored curfew condition to count towards the sentence.
2. Possession of a Class B drug: 1 month in prison (concurrent)
3. Possession of a Class B drug: 1 month in prison (concurrent)
4. Possession of a bladed article in a public place: 6 months in prison (concurrent)
