Officers are appealing for witnesses to an unexplained fatality on the railway near Fareham station on 16 July – exactly one week ago today.

At approximately 6.10pm, on the tracks near to the Gudge Heath Lane bridge, Fareham, a 27-year-old man, from Southampton, was struck by a train.

Officers are now working hard to trace the movements of this man prior to his death and are today appealing for witnesses to get in touch. Whilst these enquiries continue, the man’s death is being treated as unexplained.

Temporary Detective Sergeant Gemma Ryan said: “This was a tragic incident for the family of the man who sadly died and we have specially trained officers providing them with support. It is now vitally important we trace his final movements and I would urge anyone with information to come forward, as soon as possible.”

Did you witness this incident? Did you see anyone near the bridge between 2pm and 6.10pm on the day?

If you did or you have any other information which could help the investigation, please call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting 500 of 16 July.
