Shortly after 1pm today, officers from British Transport Police were called to the line close to Alfreton Road in Derby after reports of a fire on board a train.

The fire happened under the main carriage on a Cross Country Trains service.

Police and the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service attended and all the passengers were safely removed from the train. At this time, we do not believe there to be any reported injuries.

Enquiries are being made to establish the cause of the fire, but at this time we do not believe this to be suspicious.

We'd like to thanks the passengers and rail staff for their help during this incident. Road closures around Alfreton Road are in place whilst crews respond, likewise we expect there to be disruption to some rail services. Please check with National Rail Enquiries before travelling.
