Officers from British Transport Police are today releasing CCTV images in connection to a cable theft on a branch line in Greater Manchester.
 
Between 4am and 7am on 16 June, a large quantity of cable was stolen from the Haydock Branch line close to Golborne in Wigan. This is one of a number of incidents in the area that has resulted in the theft of cable with an estimated value of £9,000.

Officers have conducted a number of enquiries and are today releasing CCTV images of a man they would like to speak with in connection.

Cable theft is not a victimless crime and can incur a huge cost to the rail industry. Officers continue to work closely with Network Rail and train operators to prevent cable theft and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
