Officers are investigating after a train guard was slapped by a man who dashed across the tracks to catch a service at Romiley station.

The train driver had to do an emergency stop to avoid the man, and a woman who was with him, when they decided to cross between two platforms to get on the train.

When the doors opened, the guard stopped them from boarding because they had trespassed. The man then became abusive before slapping the guard across the face.

The assault happened on 23 May at around 8.40pm.

PC Charlene Pelzer said: “These people took a completely unnecessary risk to get  a train, and one which ultimately prevented them from travelling.

“One of them then had the gall to assault the train guard, who was only doing his job. Our enquiries at the station have uncovered images of a man and a woman we’d like to speak to about this incident and I’d urge anyone who knows them to contact us.”

Anyone who knows their identities is urged to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text officers on 61016, reference 662 of 23/05/18. Alternatively, details can also be given to the anonymous charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
