An 18-year-old man has been sentenced after he was found carrying a knife at Barking railway station.

On Tuesday 6 March, officers were at the station conducting a local operation.

They noticed a man enter the station and then back out when he saw the officers. When questioned, he was nervous and evasive, and then tried to run away.

Officers restrained Alexandru Aldea, of Crescent Road in Dagenham, and searched him.

They found a large serrated knife. Whilst searching him, Aldea was violent and kicked one officer, before injuring the hand of another.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, two counts of assaulting a constable and theft of a driving licence.

He pleaded guilty at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 8 March and was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison.

Sgt Kamal Khan said: “I am pleased this man was brought in front of the courts, where justice was delivered swiftly, and he is now off the streets.

“I hope this serves as a deterrent and a warning to others – carrying a knife will result in a prison sentence.”
