A British Transport Police Special Constable was today dismissed from the Force, following a public gross misconduct hearing.

SPC Daniel Tiftik, based in London, was found to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in regards to use of force, authority, respect and courtesy and honesty and integrity.

On 3 April 2017, SPC Tiftik was on duty at South Hampstead station where he detained a man under the Mental Health Act and was alleged to have punched the man three times whilst in an ambulance.

The incident came to light when concerned officers who witnessed the assault reported the matter to their supervisor.

Head of Professional Standards Supt Gill Murray said: “This was a disturbing investigation where disproportionate force was used against a vulnerable member of our community. Thankfully concerned colleagues reported this immediately to their supervisors.

“Today, at an independent misconduct hearing, the panel quite rightly determined that SPC Tiftik used force which was excessive and disproportionate, and made a false account to his supervisor and within his note book.

“These breaches amounted to gross misconduct and he has been subsequently dismissed from the Force without notice.”
