We are appealing for information following an apparently unprovoked assault against a couple on a train to Weybridge.

A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were travelling on a train from Waterloo to Weybridge at around midnight – 12.30am on 5 November.

Without any provocation, they were physically attacked by a man who they did not know.

The offender grabbed the man by the neck and when the woman tried to intervene, he punched her in the face.

Another passenger managed to intervene and pull the offender away.

The couple managed to move away from the man to another part of the train.

The woman sustained bruising to her face and eye and both she and the man were left shaken by the incident.

The offender is white, aged between 25 and 40 years old, of slim build, with brown/ginger hair. He was wearing a dark coloured raincoat.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault who has not yet come forward, or anyone who may know who the offender is.

A female passenger on the train told the victims she knew the offender. Officers would particularly like to speak to her.

If you have any information about the incident, please call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 134 25/1/18.
