£5,000 worth of damage following attempted cable theft – Cardiff

Detectives from British Transport Police are today releasing a CCTV image of a man following an attempted cable theft on the railway in Cardiff. 

The incident occurred on 26 December on the line between Grangetown and Cogan. A man climbed over fencing to access the tracks, he then caused significant damage to the railway signalling cable which cost Network Rail £5,000. At the time, the man was on a black bicycle. 

No cable was stolen during the incident, however extensive repairs were needed in order for the trains to run again. 

A CCTV image of a man is now being released in connection to this incident. Officers from BTP believe this man may be able to help with their enquiries.
