Appeal after disorder at Highbury & Islington station – London

Officers from British Transport Police are appealing for information after a video surfaced showing a disturbance at Highbury & Islington station. 

In the video, a man brandishes a knife, there is then an altercation on the station platform. 

The incident happened shortly after 6am on New Year’s Day on a Victoria Line platform. Officers were quickly on scene and a man was arrested. 

An investigation is now underway in order to understand exactly what happened in the moments leading to the video being recorded.

Knife crime and violence such as this will never be tolerated on the rail network. Officers are working hard to establish the full circumstances leading to this incident occurring. 

A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, he has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue. During the arrest a knife was recovered.
