A 29-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after he murdered a father.

Wayne Fenton, 49, a father of five, was murdered by Jamie Skinner on 8 August this year at Plymouth railway station.

Today (4/12) Skinner of Bodmin Road, Plymouth, appeared before Plymouth Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to murder.

Skinner will serve a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years and six months in jail.

Following the conviction, Wayne’s family paid tribute to him, saying: “Our lives changed forever when we lost Wayne. He was a loving son, partner, father, grandfather and brother and it’s going to take a long time for this to seem real.

“Tomorrow would have been Wayne’s 50th birthday and it seems surreal that he won’t be here to celebrate the milestone. Wayne was loved by many and this incident will never leave us.”

Wayne's partner Soraya Hester said: "We are devastated that Wayne will not get to see his two youngest children grow up and will not be reunited with his family, which he had been working towards for over the last four years."

Skinner, who knew Wayne, was dropping him off at the station at about 9.55am on Tuesday 8 August. As Wayne got out of the car, Skinner took a folding knife from his pocket and stabbed Wayne in the neck.

Wayne was repeatedly stabbed sustaining in excess of 40 stab wounds. Wayne was taken to hospital where he later died.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Langley said: “This was a horrific and senseless attack on a father in broad daylight. The sentence handed down by the judge shows the heinous crime that Skinner committed. Wayne’s murder will have a lasting effect on his family and loved ones and no doubt the members of the public and staff that were present at the station . I hope Skinner takes the time in prison to reflect upon his actions and really think about the immense impact he has caused to Wayne and his family.”
