A couple who were arrested after threatening and abusing each other and others at Edinburgh Waverley station last Sunday, 19 November have appeared in court.

Jogita Karklina ( 27) and Liam Young ( 28) both of Garvally Cresent in Alloa, were heavily intoxicated when they shouted and swore at each other at the station at around 9.30pm.

When they were told to calm down by officers, they continued to use abusive and offensive language.  Despite officers splitting the couple up , they continued to argue and shout and when asked to provide their details they provided false information. After they continued to remonstrate despite numerous warnings, they were detained and charged with threatening and abusive behaviour and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

After pleading guilty at Edinburgh Sherriff’s Court on 20 November, Young was sentenced to a 100 hour Community Pay Back Order, and Karklina ordered to pay a £270 fine.

PC Sonja Lasic said, “The couple’s behaviour was appalling and was causing significant distress to other passengers and rail staff at the station. Despite officers attempting to calm them down and diffuse the situation, they continued to display unacceptable behaviour at the station and were subsequently arrested.”
