On Sunday 12 November, British Transport Police alongside West Midlands Police and the emergency services took part in a live play training exercise at the Bullring and Grand Central, Birmingham.

This was a pre-planned exercise to test the response of all emergency partners to a major incident, and was not in response to any specific threat or intelligence.

The exercise was held after Hammerson, who manage both the Bullring and Grand Central, approached West Midlands Police to help them test their security plans.

Chief Superintendent John Conaghan said: "This is one of  a number of  exercises that we conduct to test our capability when faced with a large scale incident. It is invaluable and gives us the opportunity to review our processes when working with partners ensuring that we continually improve and are in the best possible position to ensure the safety of the communities we serve."
