An elderly man was assaulted after asking two men to take their feet off a train seat – and we’d like to speak to this man in connection.

At around 8.23pm on Sunday 24 September, a man in his eighties was travelling on the 8.15pm train from Liverpool Lime Street to Rainhill station in Merseyside.

During the journey, just before Broadgreen station, he challenged two men who had their feet on the seats.

One of the men then struck him on the left cheek, causing him to fall and strike the back of his head.

He sustained a lump and a three inch cut to the back of his head. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers would like to speak to the man shown in the CCTV image as he may have information which could help the investigation.

If you recognise him, or have any other information against the incident, please call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 330 of 10 November.
