A man has been sentenced to a year in prison after touching himself inappropriately in front of a woman on a train.

Mark Middleton, aged 41, of The Titheway, Middle Littleton, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, plus six months in prison to run consecutively for breaching a suspended sentence, so will serve one year in prison.

He pleaded guilty to the offence of outraging public decency on 21 September at Reading Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced at the same court on 23 October.

Middleton was also given a seven year sexual harm prevention order and a seven year sex offender notification requirement.

The incident happened on 22 July this year. Middleton boarded a train at Reading at around 9.50am and after initially sitting down at one point in the carriage, he moved to sit opposite a 43-year-old woman.

He then touched himself inappropriately whilst looking at her.

The victim walked away and saw Middleton leave the train at Didcot Parkway.

He was later arrested at Oxford railway station by BTP officers.

Middleton was a registered sex offender at the time of this crime and has previously been convicted of two similar offences whilst travelling on the rail network.
