A 49-year-old man has been sentenced after he was caught drink driving by BTP officers.

George Welford, of View Road, Rochester, was spotted by officers driving recklessly on Station Approach Road in Stratford on 30 September.

When stopped, he was found to be over the drink drive limit and was already disqualified from driving.

He pleaded guilty to one count of driving a motor vehicle with excess alcohol and one count of driving whilst disqualified at East London Magistrates’ Court on 2 October.

He was sentenced to a suspended 12 week sentence, was disqualified from driving for three years and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £115.

Investigating officer Inspector Michael Tanner said: “Welford was already banned from driving when this offence occurred.  By the manner of his driving he clearly was a danger to himself and other road users.”
