Investigation continues into Croydon tram crash

The investigation by British Transport Police into the tram derailment at Croydon in November 2016 continues. Tragically, seven people were killed when the tram overturned near to Sandilands stop on 9 November. 

The driver of a the tram, a 43-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. This morning, he returned to police custody where he was further interviewed in relation to this investigation. 

He has now been released under police investigation whilst enquiries continue. 
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson, said: “This is a complex enquiry and we have a team of detectives who are dedicated to investigating the cause of the derailment. There has been good progress in the investigation since the incident last November and today we further interviewed the driver. 

“We have released him under investigation as we now finalise the report for the Crown Prosecution Service.”
