We are appealing for information after two BTP officers were assaulted at Edinburgh Haymarket station today.

At around 11am, officers were called to the station to reports of a man being verbally abusive.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated threatening and abusive behaviour and assault.

During the arrest, two BTP officers were assaulted and a member of the public attempted to intervene.

Officers would like to speak to the member of the public, who left without giving his details.

If you were that man, or know who he might be, please call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text information to 61016 quoting reference number 162 8/8.

The man who was arrested in connection with the incident was further arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and assaulting a police constable and  is currently in custody.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken to them.
