Three people from Birmingham have appeared in court charged with conspiring to steal more than £50,000 from tram and railway station ticket machines.

Cornel Naida, 32, Alin Grijincu, 31, and Ancuta Grijincu, 25 – all of Holcombe Road, Tyseley – appeared before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday (18 July), each charged with one count of conspiracy to steal.

The trio were arrested at their home address on 17 July as part of an investigation into thefts from more than 70 ticket machines between May 2016 and February 2017 in the Midlands, North West and South East. In addition to money being stolen from the machines, the cost of the damage caused from breaking into them came to around £308,000.

The men – Cornel and Alin – were remanded into custody following their appearance, while Ancuta was released on court bail. The trio are next due to appear before Birmingham Crown Court on 22 August.
