Serial bike thief owns up to £6k thefts at Birmingham New Street

A man has admitted stealing 17 bikes – worth more than £6,000 in total – from Birmingham New Street station.

Graham Hughes, 30, of no fixed address, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (17 July) charged with 17 counts of theft.

The bikes were stolen from the Moor Street link and “drop and go” areas at the station between 15 May and 10 July after having their locks cut. Hughes was identified from CCTV at the station and was arrested in Solihull on Saturday, 15 July.

Hughes pleaded guilty to all the offences and was remanded into custody following his appearance. He is next due to appear before Birmingham Crown Court on 14 October.
