CCTV released in connection to serious staff assault at West Ham

We are releasing CCTV images of a man detectives wish to speak with in connection to a serious assault at West Ham Underground station. 

The incident happened at around 2pm on Thursday 6 July, on a Jubilee Line platform at West Ham underground station

The 54-year-old member of rail staff was at West Ham station as part of a revenue enforcement operation. The member of staff approached a man to enquire about his ticket, however the man ran off. On the Jubilee Line platform, there was an altercation at this point and the man then barged the victim they both fell onto the tracks. The man then ran off down the tracks.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment where he was treated for a laceration to his head and an injured hand.

Investigating officer, DC Dean Percival, said: “This was a serious and unprovoked assault and I am looking to speak with anyone who may recognise the man in the CCTV images. I believe he may have essential information that could help us piece together what happened. 

“Likewise, I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident. I am conscious that there was a number of individuals on the platform at the time who witnessed what happened.

“The railway should be a safe environment for everyone who travels and works on it. We will not tolerate violence towards rail staff and will be doing everything we can to identify the offender and bring him to justice.”
 
Steve Burton, TfL’s Director of Enforcement, said: “We do not tolerate any form of verbal or physical assault on our staff. Everyone has the right to go about their work without fear or intimidation and we work extremely closely with British Transport Police to bring perpetrators to justice.”
