Bristol council boss and former top cop cleared of sexual assaults

A council boss and former senior police officer in Bristol has been cleared of sexually assaulting women on trains in the West Country.

Gary Davies, 54 and of Shoreditch Road, Taunton, had been charged with five counts of sexual assault against three women.

Following a four-day trial at Bristol Crown Court, a jury found the former Chief Superintendent and council chief not guilty of any of the offences.

Commenting on the verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Tony Fitzpatrick from BTP CID, said: “We take all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and we will fully investigate allegations brought to our attention.

“Mr Davies was charged following such an investigation, and in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.

“As with any police inquiry, it is only right that all available evidence was gathered and put before a jury to decide, whose verdict we accept."
