A British Transport Police officer has been charged with fraud by Surrey Police.

Sgt Matthew Grist , from Gillingham, Kent was arrested on 26 October 2016 and was charged by Surrey Police on Sunday (14 May) with one count of fraud by false representation.

He is due to appear at Staines Magistrates’ Court on 1 June.

An investigation by BTP’s Professional Standards Department has been commenced, but is pending to allow the criminal prosecution to take precedence.

Sgt Grist is currently suspended from duty whilst the court case is ongoing.
