We are appealing for information after hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to construction machinery next to the railway at Swinton, Manchester.

The offenders struck at some point between 7pm and 9pm on Tuesday, 9 May, causing damage to five specialist construction machines; smashing windows and damaging the interior cab of a digger, and destroying a monitor, gauge and fuses in other vehicles.

British Transport Police officers are investigating and would like to speak to anyone who has any information about the incident.

Investigating officer, DC Steven Torbica, said: “The damage to this specialist machinery is extensive and the cost to replace and repair is expected to run into hundreds of thousands of pounds. This  is random and pointless and a wanton act of vandalism of property. There’s also the additional fact that whoever did this was trespassing and in doing so put their lives at risk.

“If you saw or heard anything out of the ordinary, or have any information about who might be responsible for this criminal damage, please call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 239 of 11/05/2017.”
