We are appealing for information after a listed railway building was damaged by vandals in Redcar, Cleveland.

At some point between Friday 14 April and Friday 28 April, offenders smashed the roof windows on the old Redcar Central Station.

More than 20 roof windows were cracked or smashed, causing approximately £8,000 - £10,000 worth of damage to the listed building.

British Transport Police officers are investigating and would like to speak to anyone who has any information about the incident.

Investigating officer, PC Nick Jones, said: “The damage caused to this listed building is appalling. Whoever committed the damage would have put themselves at risk by accessing the roof which is incredibly dangerous whatever the building is, but even more so when it’s by a railway line, as you risk falling onto the tracks and being struck by a train.

“If you saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in the area over the past few weeks, or have any information about who might be responsible for this criminal damage, please call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 137 28/4/17.”
