Officers have launched an investigation and released an image of a man they wish to speak to following a racially aggravated assault on board a train service between Sheffield and Hull.

The incident happened on 6 April at 5.51pm

A man boarded the train at Sheffield as soon as he got on the train another man barged into him and racially abused him

The victim asked the man to repeat himself to which the suspect then grabbed him by the throat and tightly squeezed his neck, locking his arm out.

The man then pushed the victim backwards down the train, causing him to fall back into another passenger.

The suspect stayed on the train after the victim got off.

PC Stephen O'Callaghan said: “This was an awful attack on a man who was simply going about his journey. To be racially abused verbally or physically will never be tolerated.

“I am keen to speak to the man in the image who I believe holds information that could be key to our investigation.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the service and who witnessed the incident. Everyone has the right to travel on the rail network without fear of crime of intimidation.”
