Were you on the 7.33pm service from Stoke-on-Trent to Derby on Good Friday and did you see a man being assaulted?

We’d like to speak to anyone who saw an incident on board the train, which was filled with football fans from Sheffield United and Notts County fans.

The victim – a 32-year-old man – went to the toilet at around 7.33pm and, when he returned to his seat, had sustained deep cuts above his eye, below his eye and had considerable swelling around his eyes and nose. He received hospital treatment for his injuries.

Investigating officer PC Ian Nullis said: “This was a very nasty assault and we’re doing everything to establish the circumstances of what happened.

“The victim is unsure exactly what happened but it is clear he was assaulted and so we are going to make sure we find those responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting 528 of 14 April.
