We are appealing for information after an assault at Morpeth railway station.

At around 6.40pm on Saturday 11 March, the victim, a 57-year-old man, was travelling on the 6.20pm Newcastle to Morpeth Northern Rail service.

He had a verbal altercation with two or three men on the platform before he boarded the train.  

On arrival at Morpeth he became involved in a physical altercation with the same men.

He sustained serious injuries including a punctured lung and two broken ribs and was in hospital for five days.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was on board the train or at the station and Morpeth who may have seen or heard what happened.
