A 33-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City has been ordered to pay £1000 after he was charged with offences related to drugs, trespass and criminal damage.

Lukas Stopa of Eddington Crescent, Welwyn Garden City, was charged with three counts of criminal damage, possession of cannabis and trespass following an investigation by officers from British Transport Police.

Stopa was arrested on Friday, 29 July 2016 after officers were called by Network Rail workers who had reported seeing Stopa graffiting close to the railway line at Welwyn Garden City.

Following a search of his property officers found paint cans and cannabis.

PC Ben Swapp said: “I hope the sanctions handed down to Stopa will make him think about the damage he caused through graffiting.

“Often graffiti artists put their lives at risk in the act of spraying difficult surfaces, such as bridges or trains in sidings.

“And the costs of cleaning up are enormous.”

Stopa pleaded guilty to the offences on 17 January 2017 at St Albans Crown Court he was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on 24 February.
