Officers investigating the theft and attempted theft of a bike from Loughborough station have charged a man in connection with the offences.

Anthony John Aitkin, aged 36, was arrested on Sunday (12 February) on suspicion of stealing a mountain bike worth over £500 and the attempted theft of another bike.

Both bikes were recovered and will be returned to their owners.

He was arrested after officers in an unmarked police car saw him acting suspiciously around the cycle racks at the station.

Aitkin, of no fixed address, was later charged with one count of theft and attempted theft and has been released on bail to appear before Leicester Magistrates’ Court on 16 March.
